With a focus on luxury and technology, the new full-size luxury car from China, the Hongqi H9, is competing against the powerful premium sedans from Europe.
According to appearance, the Hongqi H9 combines elements of rival high-end luxury sedans like the Rolls Royce Ghost and BMW 7-Series. The compact two-part LED headlamps eerily resemble those of the brand-new version of the 7-Series, while the front grille's vertical slats clearly take inspiration from Rolls Royce models. The front grille, front and rear bumper inserts, and the lower portion of the door panels of the sedan all feature generous amounts of chrome. While the H9's dual-tone paint scheme makes you think of Maybach models, the tail lamps' style is reminiscent of the Cadillac CT5 sedan.
The majority of the inside of the Hongqi H9 is covered in luxurious leather, giving the impression that it is a true luxury sedan. The H9 also comes with a special trim made of wood, marble, and peppermint sticks in addition to satin chrome and piano black inlays. With separate full-TFT screens for the instrument console and the touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, the cabin also appears to be quite current. The entire architecture of the inside, with its waterfall-like center console, circular AC vents, and dials for various functions, is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class interior.
The Hongqi H9 also receives illusive extras like a refrigerator, massage seats, and rear entertainment displays that are often found in top-tier luxury saloons. The controls for adjusting the front and rear seats are built into the armrest in the center of the back seats. Rear AC vents and a separate touch-sensitive climate control panel are located on the panel between the front seats that faces the back passengers.
The HOngqi H9 is provided with two engine options, both of which are linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and is standardly available with a rear-wheel-drive arrangement. The larger 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine produces 284 PS and 400 Nm of torque, whereas the smaller 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces 255.5 PS and 380 Nm.
